چکیده

Genetic variation in wild relatives, GenBank accessions, landraces, and cultivars can unlock key alleles for the traits of interest breeding programs. Breeding programs often utilize different strategies to quantify source heritable target traits. One neglected area study is root diverse genotypes, this especially case aluminum toxicity effects on legumes such as common bean, which most used pulse direct human consumption. This evaluated 267 genotypes bean that were part global Andean Diversity Panel (ADP), consisting mainly assembled from public private Africa North America, well elite lines land races USDA. The ADP was at seedling stage Tennessee State University (TSU) greenhouse using a hydroponic system with standard nutrient solution without (Al). recorded data roots per trial fit linear mixed model analysis variance order test genotype differences. Adjusted means considered replication blocks within random fixed effects. These then Pearson correlation tests principal component (PCA), where first two vectors accounted 94.5% 93% explained under control Al-treatment conditions, respectively. Genotypes clustered based morphology response Al-toxicity treatment Euclidean distance Ward’s hierarchical agglomerative clustering method, identifying four distinctive groups significant p < 0.01. intra-cluster lower than inter-cluster distances, indicated heterogeneous homogeneous nature between clusters, results suggest crossing accessions clusters would result maximum genetic segregation. cluster found have higher tolerance others.

Rice Root Architectural Plasticity Traits and Genetic Regions for Adaptability to Variable Cultivation and Stress Conditions.

Future rice (Oryza sativa) crops will likely experience a range of growth conditions, and root architectural plasticity will be an important characteristic to confer adaptability across variable environments. In this study, the relationship between root architectural plasticity and adaptability (i.e. yield stability) was evaluated in two traditional × improved rice populations (Aus 276 × MTU101...

Comparing genetic diversity and population structure of common beans grown in Kyrgyzstan using microsatellites

Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is an important export crop in Kyrgyzstan. The aim of this study was to assess the extent of genetic diversity, determine the population structure, and relate to the main gene pools grown in Kyrgyzstan. Twenty-eight common bean accessions (including five Kyrgyz cultivars, and main references from the Mesoamerica and South America) were evaluated with microsat...

Root Traits, Nodulation and Root Distribution in Soil for Five Wild Lentil Species and Lens culinaris (Medik.) Grown under Well-Watered Conditions

The efficient use of resources such as water and nutrients by plants is increasingly important as the world population food demand continues to grow. With the increased production of lentil in the temperate zones of North America, improvement in yield needs to be maintained. The use of wild lentil genotypes as sources of genetic diversity for introgression into cultivated lentil is an important...

Leaf movements and photoinhibition in relation to water stress in field-grown beans.

Photoinhibition in plants depends on the extent of light energy being absorbed in excess of what can be used in photochemistry and is expected to increase as environmental constraints limit CO2 assimilation. Water stress induces the closure of stomata, limiting carbon availability at the carboxylation sites in the chloroplasts and, therefore, resulting in an excessive excitation of the photosyn...

Variability of Root Traits in Spring Wheat Germplasm

Root traits influence the amount of water and nutrient absorption, and are important for maintaining crop yield under drought conditions. The objectives of this research were to characterize variability of root traits among spring wheat genotypes and determine whether root traits are related to shoot traits (plant height, tiller number per plant, shoot dry weight, and coleoptile length), region...
